It’s been an exciting year for everyone at Hedera and the HBAR Foudation, the organization and the token have come a long way. In the meantime the price of HBAR has reached recent highs. This has gone hand in hand with multiple use cases being confirmed by Hedera itself. Today we look at how strong will HBAR be in 2025. And whether it’s still worth getting involved.

At #DisruptionBanking we first wrote about Hedera’s HBAR in October 2023. At the time Hedera was trading at just $0.05 or five cents. Today it is trading at $0.30 or thirty cents. Neither NVIDIA nor bitcoin have given such high returns during this period.

The good news for HBAR hodlers doesn’t end there. Just a few days ago social media posts about Donald Trump buying HBAR started trending. Don’t get much better adverts for a digital asset than that now do you? There were even some rumours that HBAR could be included in a U.S. strategic cryptocurrency reserve.

How Did HBAR Do in 2024?

In our story from 2023 we mentioned how Hedera had a market cap on Coinbase of $1.6 billion. Today this number has jumped to $12 billion. This is more than Polkadot, Uniswap or even Aave – industry veterans.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing in 2024 though. A sharp price correction occurred in April when claims that Hedera was involved with BlackRock hit the market. This story was definitely premature and saw a big jump to 10 cents. This quickly corrected back down to 3 cents, and the price never really recovered until November.

Other than the results of the U.S. election there were a few other things that may affect the future value of HBAR. These are:

  • The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) joins the Hedera Council to expedite tokenization of securities in Kenya’s capital markets (October 2024)

This is a big story in the grand scheme of things, as market commentators see this as a sign of things to come. What next? The NYSE?

  • EQTY Lab, Intel, and NVIDIA unveil Verifiable Compute. The new, transformative solution that addresses a critical need in the AI industry for trust and verification, particularly as autonomous AI agents become more prevalent. The framework leverages the Hedera Consensus Service to create an immutable ledger of AI computations. Something that could be a gamechanger in governing large language models into 2025.

There is no correlation as yet to the price of the HBAR token, however the above stories put the token into good stead for some steady returns in 2025.

What about the Hedera Council Members?

There can be up to 39 governing council members of Hedera. The presence of these members, like the NSE mentioned above, helps strengthen the value proposition of HBAR. However, today there are only 32 council members, and some of those will need their membership renewed soon.

One of the council members whose membership expires in 2025 is Chainlink Labs. On May 19th the leading digital assets business will need to renew its membership of the governing council. This is by no means a ‘given’. It very much depends on what other solutions may still appear on the market. For now, Hedera is in a unique position. It is an advanced DLT solution that some refer to as the ‘quantum’ of blockchains.

Whoever joins the remaining seven remaining slots on the Hedera Council could also make a big impact on the price of the HBAR token. Just consider Tesla or Apple joining in the near future. They could have the same effect on the price of the token as the story about BlackRock from earlier in 2024.

Hedera’s Tokenization Services

There is no doubt that Hedera is already making a name for itself as a leader in real-world asset tokenization. The Hedera platform simplifies the process of tokenizing real-world and digital assets, making them liquid, fractional, and transparent.

For a better overview of the specific case studies, there are lots. DisruptionBanking spoke with Duncan Moir of abrdn about how the oldest asset manager in Europe is using Hedera to tokenize money market funds earlier in 2024. There are plenty more examples of this on the Hedera site. Including:

  • Archax, which takes advantage of the Hedera Token Service (HTS). HTS is used to create tokenized representations of traditional financial instruments like stocks, bonds, and other real-world assets on the Hedera network.
  • Bitcarbon and Diamond Standard are leveraging the Hedera network and its services to tokenize diamonds and create a fungible commodity that is transparent, traceable, and easily tradable, providing greater liquidity and accessibility to the diamond market.

There are others. Like Avery Dennison Corporation partnering with the HBAR Foundation on sustainability initiatives. There is also EMTECH, which is a SaaS company connecting central banks and financial services providers. EMTECH is leveraging the Hedera network to help drive financial inclusion by connecting the unbanked to the global financial system and enabling ease of access to central banks and banking services organizations.

How Strong will HBAR be in 2025?

There is huge interest from institutions as well as some institutional investors into Hedera and the HBAR token.

If the SEC’s planned move to tokenizing the supply chain gains impetus, Hedera is already one of the most important use cases. And there is also talk of a HBAR ETF being issued in 2025.

Add to the above how HBAR has entered the top 20 digital assets by market cap in 2024. It may enter the Top 10 by the end of 2025. This is not a token to be taken lightly.

Conservative estimates by market commentators like the HBAR Bull or David from Sin City Crypto both believe that $1 is a realistic price target. Some of the reasons for this are because of the rise in interest in tokens with real use cases. Investors don’t want another dogecoin, they want a token that can actually do something. WIth the above in mind, 53 cents is one of the lower predictions that the commentators have suggested.

If Apple, Tesla, NVIDIA, or BlackRock joined the governing council then these price predictions would become ‘conservative’, whereas for now they remain slightly ‘ambitious’.

Many investors have added HBAR to their portfolios in 2024. Will you add the token to your portfolio in 2025?
