Bahrain – 2019. Nov 11. – Bahrain-based Bank ABC, recognised this year as the most innovative Arab bank of the year by Fintech Galaxy, has announced the launch of “Fatema”– a “autonomous digital employee” which will assist online customers as of December 2019.

The technology behind the digital assistant was developed by New Zealand startup Soul Machines and will provide tailored customer experience to the bank’s online customers thanks to an AI interface which processes data belonging to each individual customer.

Coined as a digital employee and the world’s first Digital DNATMHuman, Fatema will allegedly simulate the attention, learning, sensorial and responsive actions of a real-life human– all the better to engage personally with customers.

Michael Berns, Head of Ai and FinTech at PwC Germany, comments on the phenomena. “What we are currently seeing in the global marketplace – with Asia and the Middle East leading the way – is the arrival of Chatbots 2.0 powered by conversational AI and human-like customisable interfaces. It will be interesting to observe the adoption rate and eventually new services supported by the technology.”

Soul Machines appeared on the banking scene with their “Cora” avatar created for the Royal Bank of Scotland and is becoming a fast favourite with enterprises in banking as well as healthcare and education. The Collection House in Australia have used them for money-advising virtual assistant Kash, SK-II have partnered with them to create the world’s for Digital Influencer, and their digital avatar for IT firm Autodesk won silver in this year’s Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service.
